Building Brands w/ Ishan
Inspiring Figures is a monthly blog column where I share with you people who are catalysts in inspiring and motivating me. They are people you should really know about.
To celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, I’ve decided to feature two incredibly inspiring figures this month. You can read the last Inspiring Figure post with Jennifer Opal here.
Each feature first took place live on Instagram, I’d like to say a huge thank you once again to everyone that joined in!
THIS MONTH FEATURES, ISHAN.
Similar to other Inspiring Figures on this feature, I first encountered Ishan on Instagram and immediately fell in love with her content.
We are quite alike in our views with social media, personal branding and the online world! Since following her, I’ve been so inspired by her constant work to help others making their way through the increasingly “loud” digital realm.
I really enjoyed speaking to Ishan on IG Live last weekend! We had actually planned it during the week but Instagram was down for a few hours so we had to reschedule…
We did however end up chatting on WhatsApp for a couple of minutes and I have to say that Ishan is one of the most authentic people on the internet. 🥰 I hope that you get as much out of the interview with her to apply today!
🐦 Being a Social Media Coach
When I asked Ishan to introduce herself, one of the first things she said was, “I love everything social media!” As part of her business, she decided to focus on the digital aspect of marketing, in particular, social media and has now become a social media coach. Ishan primarily works with women to step up their social media game with their own businesses, this stems from her passion on bringing more diversity in the world of business.
On Ishan’s website, she describes herself as:
“an unshakable dreamer crafting a legacy, on a mission to COACH & EMPOWER women entrepreneurs to build brands they can say, ‘HELL YEAH’ about.”
I love that. 🔥
🔎 Choosing this path
Initially, she wanted to get a job after graduating from university but created another opportunity for herself! As opposed to the “traditional” route that many of us take, Ishan learnt in her journey that setting up her own business was what she wanted to do.
“I have to try. If I don’t I’m going to regret it my whole life.”
This pushed her to apply for an entrepreneurial visa, which has allowed her to pursue her dreams of setting up a business in the UK. During our live, Ishan shares her thanks for the support throughout her journey so far from her parents.
It’s refreshing to see that she has been able to create such a fulfilling path for herself – there is a lot more you can do outside the traditional routes.
☕️ What does a day look like as a Social Media Coach?
As Ishan works for herself, you can imagine that her routine is quite flexible. In charge of her own schedule, she’s managed to create a good routine to help structure her day including meditation, gratitude journalling and reading a book to kick start her day.
For the rest of the day, she works on replying to emails and working on her coaching.
The beauty of this flexibility is that you can work as hard and as long as you want. If you feel like you need to put extra hours in, then you can. If you feel like you need to work smart for 4 hours straight, then you can! Likewise, you can work from literally anywhere as long as there is WiFi. The freedom is there.
✨ Highlight of the day
Receiving feedback from people that she has reached with her work is the best part of the day. Knowing that she has had even a small impact on people makes it all worth it for her!
In addition, being able to connect with so many people across the world is definitely a great part of her job.
❓ How do you be taken seriously?
Sometimes it is difficult to be taken seriously on the online world. I know that personally I’ve faced this, where folks have rolled their eyes at my ideas or what I’m already doing. It’s not a nice feeling but I think as “creators” or whatever you’d like to call us, this is something that we all have to face.
Ishan rightly said during our chat that there is no point trying to convince others, if they don’t believe in what you’re doing. Try not to let it deter you… kill it with kindness and success! Continue to try your best, be so good that people can’t simply ignore you as the results come flooding in!
🔥 Ishan’s top tips to grow on social media
These are some of the tips she gave:
- Stop trying to sell – Of course, you want to sell your products and services but focusing on your what and how will get you clients but won’t build trust. Reconnect with your why, and then the right people will come.
- Shift your focus on adding value to people’s life – What are you doing that can enhance people’s business or life?
- Authenticity comes from being transparent and real with people – so show a little bit of yourself, not just your product. After all, people buy don’t buy products, they buy brands.
- Don’t fall in the pit of comparison – perfection on social media is an illusion. Stay in your own lane!
- Be patient – the online world makes it look like success can be an overnight thing. Nobody sees the tears, the grit and persistence, they just see the results! Be patient. Growth takes time.
🌟 The Future
Ishan excitedly shared that she has so many ideas with her business and she can’t wait to do it all! Some of the things that are on her plate include starting a podcast, going to more speaking gigs and creating quality content.
If you’re interested in how she is developing over time, be sure to follow her on Instagram to keep in the loop!
